Research indicates that:

Teenagers’ views of their online lives is largely positive:
  • Over 50% report that using social media helped their social -relationships, while less than 5% said that it hurt them.
  • The majority of teens feel that social media has made no difference in whether they feel depressed, self-confident, or popular.
  • However, over 40% of adolescents wish they could “unplug” and become frustrated with friends for using their cell phones when hanging out together.
  • Face-to-face interaction remains teens’ preferred way of communicating with friends, with texting taking second place.
  • Over 40% of teenagers consider themselves “addicted” to their cell phones.
